DoTerra Essential Oils for Summertime

Spring and summer in Canada are extra sweet after a long, cold winter, and most people strive to take full advantage of the warmth while it lasts. But people aren’t the only things that become more active as warm weather approaches; so do bugs! Did you know that essential oils can help protect you from seasonal threats? Listed below are three ways in which essential oils can improve your outdoors experience this summer, whether hiking a trail or relaxing by a campfire.

Outdoor Protection
Rather than use toxic sprays while walking the trails, an essential oil blend called Terrashield  acts as an excellent alternative, and is safe for children and adults. Not only is it effective, it’s 100% natural!

Insect Deterrent
Peppermint is a natural deterrent for seasonal visits from spiders and other insects. Spritz some peppermint essential oil around doors and windows to keep them out of your home. If there’s a spot they like to hang out, you can also place a few drops onto a cotton ball and leave it in the cupboard or corner where they tend to accumulate.

First Aid

Tea tree oil is an effective preventative and treatment when applied to the roots of the hair to keep creepy crawlies at bay.  It also helps to heal wounds. Likewise, lavender is a good oil to have on hand, as it assists in healing occasional burns.
These are just a few of the many fantastic essential oils to help you enjoy your summer, indoors and out.

Caution with Sun Exposure
Remember that some oils are photosensitizing, which means that they can cause a blotchy rash if applied topically to your skin and then exposed to direct sunlight.
Wait 12-24 hours before exposing skin to sunlight that you have applied these oils to:
Bergamot (most photosensitive)
Citrus Bliss
Clary Calm
Elevation
Grapefruit
Lemon
Lime
Wild orange
